Hello fifth grade students and families! My name is Melissa Tackett and this is my sixth year as a part of the Warren Elementary family! I am very excited to be your fifth grade teacher this year! Here is a little information on me so that you can get to know me better!
I am originally from San Diego, California. As long as I can remember, I have wanted to be a teacher. I even started a "school" in my basement and sent out enrollment forms to all of the families with young children in my neighborhood-much to the dismay of my younger brother, who was my "permanent" student! Needless to say, education was in my blood, and it has been ever since! I graduated from Fort Zumwalt South High School in 2004 and attended Lindenwood University. I graduated with a degree in elementary education in 2008 and taught sixth grade science for five years at Fort Zumwalt North Middle School. I was also named the Fort Zumwalt District Educator of the Year in 2012. I loved teaching middle school, but I knew that my heart was always in elementary! I could not be happier finally pursue my dream of teaching elementary students, and am thrilled to be at Warren! I pursued the dramatic arts throughout high school and college, and that whimsical, expressive theatricality often finds its way into my teaching! I am constantly striving to maintain the interest of my students-whether it's taking them on a "journey to the center of the earth," using the Discovery Channel show Mythbusters to teach the scientific method, or even changing the lyrics to popular songs and making them about school! I always try to find a way to make my class interesting and meaningful to every student. I also love using technology, and I recently finished my Master's Degree in Educational Technology from Lindenwood University. When I'm not teaching, I'm usually spending time with my husband Kolby, our son Jacob and daughter Lydia, and our friends. I enjoy shopping (especially at Target), eating Mexican food, and sipping on Starbucks coffee. I love rereading and quoting my favorite book series Harry Potter, spending time outside, and, of course, teaching! A little more about me... Favorite Food- Guacamole, sushi, and frozen custard! (Not together of course!) Favorite Superhero- Batman Favorite T.V. Show- Mythbusters (even though it's cancelled now) Favorite Colors- Purple and Green Favorite Place to Visit- Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama! It was a blast! I also love visiting Mexico! Favorite Book- Harry Potter series Favorite Pastime- reading, shopping, playing with Jacob and Lydia, and eating. Favorite Animal- Velociraptors and all dinosaurs!
